FAQ Teaching
How do I submit the written paper (reflections, homework etc.) to the chair?
The submission is done exclusively online via the e-mail address: sozialpolitik@wiso.uni-koeln.de. You will receive an automatic reply, so you can be sure that we have received the email. The submission should be done via your S-Mail account (xxx@smail.uni-koeln.de).
Subject: Lecture or seminar title
File format: PDF File name:
Matriculation number_Initials (e.g. 79124XX_AB)
Note: Ilias does not store attachments in the "Sent" folder. Make sure that the file has been inserted as an attachment before sending. The e-mail address sozialpolitik@wiso.uni-koeln.de is for submission only, not for questions.
How do I register for the exam?
The registration is done via Klips. The dates for the exams are online (since the end of March or end of September). Please pay attention to the registration deadline! Subsequent registration is excluded. In "cases of hardship" you can contact the responsible examination office. If registration for the exam is not possible, please contact the Klips support.
Will there be a second examination date?
We offer one examination date for each semester. At the end of March you will find the dates for the summer semester and at the end of September you will find the dates for the winter semester in Klips. Exceptions concern our seminars and the module Methods of Sociology; here there will only be one examination date in the respective semester.
Will there be opportunities to ask questions?
There are three possibilities:
We will offer consultation hours. Questions regarding the content will be clarified directly with Prof. Schulz-Nieswandt in online consultation hours (via zoom). Questions concerning organization, exams, etc. can be clarified with Anne Bruns during office hours. The dates will be announced in the Ilias courses.
Another recommended option is to use the forum, which you will find in the respective Ilias courses. There you can ask questions to other students or to us. We will regularly look into the forum and answer questions.
Otherwise you are welcome to contact us by e-mail at anne.bruns@uni-koeln.de. However, we recommend using the forum and the consultation hours.
Is an extension of the deadline(s) possible?
An extension of the submission deadline(s) is not possible.
May I withdraw from the exam?
Please refer to the pages of the Wiso Examination Office.
Will there be an inspection of the exams?
Yes. We will offer an inspection online. Here you will find the exact procedure.
How strict is the given length of the paper?
You should adhere to the given length (given in pages) as far as possible. The inclusion of graphics can make the work longer. A rule of thumb says plus/minus 10 percent of the given lengths is acceptable. Only the text part (not the indexes) counts for the length of the paper. A too wide under- or overrun can lead to a point reduction.
How do I find out whether I have passed the reflecting paper?
For the first partial performance of the portfolio examination, the grade pass/fail applies. In the event of failing, we will contact the students concerned by e-mail. If you do not receive an email, you have passed. We cannot provide feedback on the content of the reflection papers during the lecture period (see question about inspection).
When do I receive the grade for my exam performance?
An 8-week correction period begins after submission of the last paper. If you need an anticipated confirmation for applications (passed with at least 4.0), please contact Anne Bruns (anne.bruns@uni-koeln.de).
Is it possible to submit before the submission date?
You are welcome submit your paper earlier. However, it is not possible to announce the grade earlier. For technical reasons, we can only make registrations in Klips when all grades are available. If you need an anticipated confirmation for applications (passed with at least 4.0), please contact Anne Bruns (anne.bruns@uni-koeln.de).
Is it possible to change or resubmit a reflection work/thesis after the first submission if the submission deadline has not yet passed?
No. Before sending, please make sure that all formal requirements are correct and that you are sending the latest version. We only evaluate the first submission of your work.
